Going out and taking photos of plants and animals was literally the first thing I ever did when I got my first digital camera at 13. Before then it had been mostly a series of holiday snaps on my old, plastic little point and shoot thing which took APS film. My mum and sister saved up for that little camera for me and it felt like I’d finally discovered a whole new part of me.

Some of my earlier ‘successful’ shots were silly little ones but I still remember them – playing around with a narrow depth of field to capture the texture of an old brick wall, a dandelion glowing at sunset, sitting for hours trying to catch a bee landing on one of my dads flowers. Not ‘good’ photos by my standards today but an important part of my journey that I’m still on.

These photos feel like the natural progression from those shots. You’ll find shots of cute animals, flowers, plants, all kinds of pretty and cute things. Some might seem simple and the result of a bit of luck and good timing (and they are) but others are the result of sitting and watching animals for hours; getting to know them, understand them, spot patterns in their behaviour so I could get the shots I wanted. Those moments when you finally get the shot you wanted after so long and that little jolt of excitement – those are some of my best memories ever.
